Obituary of John Ferguson

Please share a memory of John to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
It is with heavy hearts, full of sadness that we announce the passing of a wonderful husband, devoted father, loving papa and great papa, a good son and brother, an amazing man, John Ferguson. Just shy of his 86th birthday, on August 6th, 2024, John slipped away in his sleep after a brief illness. John will be missed by his wife of 64 years, Sharon, his 3 children, Bob, Barry and his wife Teressa, Leslie and her husband Mike. His three grandchildren; Kim and her husband Chris, Jordan, Hailey and her partner Spencer will miss their loving papa. John’s great grandchildren, Damien, Ethan and Tracy are going to miss their dear great papa so much. John is the son of the late Herbert and Doris Ferguson and will be missed by siblings Joe, Doris and Charlie. John was the eldest of 11 children whom most have passed and he shall meet up with again. John worked for 40 years at Gates Canada at both the Iroquois St and Henry St plants. When John retired, he just couldn’t sit still and became a security guard supervisor, which he loved. Then, when he retired from that, he became a crossing guard, which he loved even more. In his spare time, (what spare time, eh?) John enjoyed working on cars with his sons, Bob and Barry at our garage. Dad’s motto: put it down at the garage, you never know when you might need it. He also loved being involved with his grandchildren and great grandchildren lives. He loved spoiling all of them and enjoyed cheering on the kids on in any sports they were involved in, especially Jordan and his baseball days with the Jr Brantford Red Sox or his wrestling matches. John would or could never say no to babysitting his grandchildren. First with Kim, Jordan and Hailey and then with his great grandson Damien. He so loved babysitting his grandchildren so much. In his younger years, John enjoyed playing and coaching hockey and lacrosse. He also was a coach for his sons teams. John became involved with the neighbourhood association to ensure there was a skating rink for all the kids to use at the neighbourhood park in the wintertime. To John, family meant everything. He made sure we were happy, healthy and needed for nothing. He even worked construction during the Big Gates Strike for his family. John loved his wife, Sharon. Flowers and dinner out every Friday. And of course he loved spoiling his “little girl” Leslie, to whom he could never say no to. John was always so proud of his kids. John was the kindest, gentlest soul. The Quiet One. His generosity knew no boundaries. If he wasn’t spoiling his family, he was spoiling all of his co-workers with little treats and treasures. He treated everyone like family. The world is a little dimmer now. He will be so missed by many family and friends. We would like to thank Dr. Singh and Dr. Montour for ensuring that John got the care that he needed. A very grateful thank you to the nurses on the 6th floor and in palliative care. Your kindness, empathy and support you’ve all shown was greatly appreciated from us. All of you nurses are worth your weight in gold. Thank you to Hill and Robinson and Mike Bell for helping us through this trying time. Cremation has already taken place. As per John’s wishes, there will be no funeral. The family would like to invite all family and friends to join us in remembering our quiet soul, John. On Saturday August 24th (4 days before his birthday) from 1-4 pm, at 65 Banbury Rd. Brantford. We will never forget you Dad. We know you’ll always be watching over us, and if we do wrong, you’ll be there to kick our asses up to our shoulders. We Love You!
