Obituary of John Dorlas

Dorlas, John (Jack) Christian August 13th,1931-May 9th, 2024 Passed away peacefully at home in his 93rd year. Beloved husband of the late Gertrude (Jan 2022). John is survived by and will be greatly missed by his children John (Rosanne) Dorlas, Mary Ann (John) Leitch, Doreen (the late Bill - Feb 2022) Shannon, grandchildren Stefanie (Ryan) McFarlane, Claire Leitch, Paul Leitch (Coralee), Rachael (David) Marathakis, Kyler Shannon, Jaclyn Shannon and great grandchildren Olive Leitch Winters, Emma and John Marathakis and Harper McFarlane. John was born in Omaruru, South-West Africa (Namibia) and emigrated to Canada as a child. Most of his youth was spent in Vancouver BC. He came to Brantford as a young man and worked for 30 years at the Barber-Ellis envelope company as a dye cutter. “Jack” was a champion 5-pin bowler, devoted Maple Leafs fan and an excellent gardener. A big man with a big heart, he spent many years caring for his beloved Gertrude at their home until her last day. At the family's request, cremation has taken place. There will be no visitation or service. The family will hold a private celebration of life at a later date.
