Obituary of Baukje Heebink

Please share a memory of Baukje to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
HEEBINK, Baukje In her 100th year, our beloved Baukje passed away on Friday, July 17, 2020. Predeceased by her husband Gerhard "Gerrit" and daughter Irene. She was a loving mother to William (Bill), grandmother to Jeffrey, and “Tante” to many nieces and nephews. She was especially close to her niece Anny deJong, who faithfully called her every Saturday. A cherished “adopted” member of the Veldkamp family, she was a mother-figure and “Beppe” to several children and grandchildren whom she “adopted” in return. Baukje had a difficult life, yet, through it all, she persevered, leaning on her steadfast faith to see her through. Selflessly caring for others for much of her life, she faithfully saw to it that many she loved received birthday cards as recently as April of this year. Baukje was also a spitfire who spoke her mind and often joked about her “big mouth” getting her in trouble on more than one occasion. Her laugh was contagious. Baukje was an incredibly hard worker, avid cross-stitcher, and dedicated swimmer. She also loved to travel and even rode a camel in her 60s and an elephant in her 80s! She was a remarkable woman who will be deeply missed. Our deepest gratitude goes to Henk and Minnie DeBoer for their faithful and attentive care of Baukje for the past four years and to her favourite roommate, Alberta, who was a great friend and helper. Our heartfelt thanks also goes to the staff at Hardy Terrace for the care they provided in Baukje’s final days. Visitation will take place at BETHEL REFORMED CHURCH, 506 West Street, on Thursday starting at 10:00 AM, followed by a funeral service at 10:30 AM. Interment to follow, Mount Hope Cemetery. Please come wearing a mask or appropriate facial covering and observe all social distancing protocols. Arrangements have been entrusted to the HILL and ROBINSON FUNERAL HOME and CREMATION CENTRE, 30 Nelson Street, 519-752-2543. Online condolences and service details will be available at www.hillandrobinson.com.
