Condolences
Don Wood was a dear friend, pillar of Sydenham Church, a faithful servant of his Lord, a loving husband and dedicated father, highly skilled professional, Mr. Fix-It, man of principles, lover of humour and friend of so many.
Don built community with outgoing, warm and welcoming manner. He was always interested in how others were. He built steps, bird houses, clocks, trays and anything my wife Lola could think up. ( And it was done NOW).
Don took me fishing, had my wife and I over for meals, took us out to restaurants, we worshipped together, had fun together with he and Emily in Couples Club together.
The discussions between us over politics could be quite heated but ended up with both of us laughing at what seemed so small a difference between us.
He cooked many a meal for church suppers and was a strong worker with the Sydenham Supper Club, serving meals Sunday afternoons to up to 120 people living on the edge of life. Dons faith was a lived out faith, practical and down to earth. And his faith grew with the years, broadening and deepening, becoming more inclusive and compassionate towards all of God’s creation.
Don will live on with his family and those of us who knew him as we celebrate and live out his principles and values and work ethic.
“ Well done, good and faithful servant. Enter in to the joy of your Lord.”
Deepest sympathies to each of Don’s precious family members.
One memory i would like to share is from several years ago our Mom, Emily, Elaine, Nicole, Natalie and myself shared a special Mother's day dinner at Don & Emily's church in Brantford. Don was hosting the event and was so proud to have us join, my FIL was very ill at the time and Don took the time to make mention and gave a special blessing for him, although he had never met him.
On several occasions Don would express how proud he was of me and my accomplishments, this will stay with me always, he was definitely a Man full of grace and pride and impacted many lives.
He will be a shining light over Emily, Jim, Elaine, Michael, Nicole, Donald & Karen forever and a day.
God's speed Don you will be missed.
I miss you Grandpa. I miss our daily video calls and how technically unchallenged you were. I miss your jokes and how you could easily lighten the mood. I miss your smile and how you lit up with every conversation. I think of you every time someone cooks bacon.. I don't know anyone who liked it more than you. I think about how crafty and skilled you were when I admire all the bird houses, bbq tools, signs, furniture, clocks and the list goes on.
I found it troubling not to be by your side during your final days but you were always on my mind and will remain on my mind. I find comfort in your photo albums because I know you lived a long life filled with love, family, friends, traveling, work successes at MF, entrepreneurship and having a million pets (yes an exaggeration but come on, 13 cats and Rusty).
I know you visited me in my dreams Saturday night and I'm so thankful I was able to tell you again how much I love you. I'm sure you are busy building something up in heaven and showing off your craftsmanship. I love you forever.
Nicole Wood
Mr. Wood touched many lives, as he was such a kind hearted person, and we witnessed this first hand. The loss of Don is not going to be easy, but know that his strength lives in you all, and will get you through this.
Take solace in knowing that, and all the amazing memories will give you much comfort too.
We will certainly miss Don saying grace at Christmas time, he always said them perfectly. Our deepest condolences....Steve, Sally and George MacKay.
Rest in Peace Don.
A legend has passed away. So grateful Jim and I were there by his side, to sing with him on his way up to heaven. My wonderful Father in Law was a friend to many and a leader in his church for over 30 years....but to our family he was our rock and a fabulous role model. Smart and razor sharp right up until the end of his life. A master carpenter, he could build anything by simply looking at a photo of it. We have so many beautiful things made of wood by a true Wood! We will miss you terribly Dad, but are glad we had so many great years together. Rest in Peace.
Love you. Hugs Elaine xoxo
Lost my dear Dad on June 13th. Elaine and and I were with him as he peacefully left to meet God. He was a wonderful husband, dad, grandpa and friend to many. A great leader and teacher and extremely handy. Before “Hey Google” and “Hey Siri” it was “Hey Dad” how do you do this? Or fix this? Or build this? Early years response was “I will be right over.” That never changed in 91 years. Love you and miss you already. To the best Dad ever, we will cherish the memories. Love you. Rest In Peace.
Your loving son Jim.
xoxo
