Obituary of James Stevenson

Stevenson, James "Jim" Jim passed peacefully at the age of 82, on Tuesday, April 11, 2017 at the Brantford General Hospital. Jim emigrated from Scotland when he was 18 years old, eventually settling in Brantford where he met his soon-to-be wife Betty. The two newlyweds moved to Toronto to raise a family and ended up spending 58 years together. Betty was the love of Jim’s life. Jim will be lovingly remembered by sons Mark and Paul (Louise), his daughter Catherine (Nathalie), his granddaughters Megan, Kelli (Cory), and his great-grandson Owen. To support his young family, Jim got a job at Surpass Chemicals. He quickly rose through the ranks to eventually became the Director of Operations - a post he held for 43 years. Jim was a friend to any child or animal who crossed his path and they willingly returned great affection towards him. Jim had three main passions in life: golfing, aeronautics and politics. He spent hours and hours throughout his life walking the back nine with his family and friends and loved the game. When not golfing, Jim indulged his lifelong interest in airplanes and flying. He flew across Canada with Betty in a Piper Commanche and never missed attending an airshow. Jim was an avid participant in local and national politics, never shying away from expressing an opinion and defending what he felt was right. Friends will be received at the Hill and Robinson Funeral Home and Cremation Centre, 30 Nelson St. Brantford, (519) 752-2543 on Monday, April 17th from 7 - 9 p.m and on Tuesday, April 18th from 10 - 11 a.m. A Funeral Service will follow, in the chapel, on Tuesday, at 11 a.m. Interment Farringdon Burial Ground.
