SZABO, Jozsef - Jozsef passed away peacefully at the John Noble Home, in his 90th year. He was born in Surd, Zala Megye, Hungary. He leaves his wife Eva, currently residing in the John Noble Home, and two daughters , Kati and Rozsi of Hungary. He also leaves his stepdaughter Gyorgyi (Steve Mendell) Gallai of New York City. Jozsef lived through many trials in Hungary. As a young man he became involved with farming which gave him a background for some of his later work in Canada. He faced the rigours of WWII, and later was caught up in the Communist regime in Hungary. Escaping from Hungary in 1957, he worked briefly in Belgium, then emigrated to Canada in 1960. Here he met and married his wife Eva (nee Reichel). He worked in tobacco farming industry, then at the John Noble Home and finally retiring from Stelco Brantford. In retirement he loved to garden in his backyard and produced many generations of beautiful roses, and was proud of his prowess with vegetables. Jozsef was a long standing member of the Albion Street Hungarian Hall. The family would like to recognize the wonderful care which Jozsef received from the staff of the Cockshutt Place at the John Noble Home. They are truly committed to their work. Friends will be received at the Hill & Robinson Funeral Home & Cremation Centre, 30 Nelson Street, on Friday, July 4th, from 10-11 a.m. A Funeral Service will follow in the Chapel at 11:00 a.m. Interment Oakhill Cemetery. Donations to the John Noble Home would be greatly appreciated.
